We are very fortunate to have such healthy students at Woodview. I do see a lot of visitors in the clinic with minor ailments, bumps and bruises and this allows me the opportunity to reinforce good health habits and the “safety first” motto. I do vision and hearing screenings and keep immunization records on schedule.Due to the childhood obesity problem and concern for the rise in type 2 diabetes, we have increased our efforts in screening for acanthosis. This is a darkening of the skin at the back of the neck. These markings may indicate a risk for developing diabetes and other health problems.
I send many notices to parents during the year regarding the above screenings that are a concern and need action. Please don’t hesitate to call or come by my office if you receive any of these notices regarding your child’s health.
