SBISD students build home libraries through “My Home Library”

For the 9th year, Spring Branch ISD (SBISD), thanks to the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation. Over 4,000 SBISD children will have the joy of taking home five free books.

The initiative has become a cornerstone of the district’s community engagement and literacy efforts, ensuring that Every Child has the opportunity to build a personal library and a lifelong love of reading.

It also underscores a core belief in SBISD: student success happens when a supportive school environment, outstanding educators, community partners and strong family engagement all work together.

Since starting a partnership with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, My Home Library has placed more than 131,000 books into the homes of over 22,000 students across the district.

For many, the moment of selecting and keeping books of their own is not only unforgettable, but also a powerful first step toward becoming a lifelong reader.

Literacy as a District Priority

My Home Library is just one of many ways SBISD has elevated literacy as a districtwide priority. Under the leadership of Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Blaine, student performance and campus ratings continue to reach new heights.

This progress builds on the district’s longstanding legacy as a destination of choice for families — a place where strong academics, high expectations, and community support come together. Today, that legacy is thriving under Dr. Blaine’s team's leadership.

Why Now?

The timing is right: fresh off Literacy Month and at the very start of the school year, My Home Library is building momentum to get students excited about reading from day one.

This year, the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation will provide the My Home Library program to seven schools: Buffalo Creek Elementary, Hollibrook Elementary, Housman Elementary, Ridgecrest Elementary, Shadow Oaks Elementary, Westwood Elementary, and Woodview Elementary.
